Music Group performing at Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar Amphitheatre

First Date with Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar Amphitheatre

Did you know that the world class auditorium of our lake city, Dr.Kashinath Ghanekar Sabhagruha in Hiranandani Meadows houses an amphitheatre? Not many know about it. Veteran Citizen Forum (VCF) is the first senior citizens’ organization to spot this facility and make use of it for organizing its karaoke musical show on 24th evening.  Senior citizens in sixties and seventies crooned melodies of the golden era to the delight of one and all.  The musical evening began with the number Chaand Phir Nikala by Anjali Ajgaonkar, Kishore Ovalekar whistled a song. Suprita Yende, a former radio singer anchored the show. The programme conceptualized by Gp. Capt. Arun Thakur (Retd) was coordinated by Raghunath Kedar and his team. The audience was enthralled by the duets sung and Arun Thakur and Suchitra Joshi, Mrudul and Dr.Bharati Modi, Raghunath Kedar and Suprita Yende.

Speaking on the occasion, Gp.Capt. Arun Thakur (Retd), president of VCF, said that the concept of performing in amphitheaters is fairly new in the country. He had seen citizens giving performances in street squares and amphitheaters abroad. “We are the first to use this amphitheater to provide recreational activities for our senior citizen members,” said Thakur. The potential of amphitheaters and Happy streets is yet to be tapped in the city. Only recently the city witnessed Happy Street on Gladys Alvares Road when VCF took active part by organizing a Nature walk and display of art by two of its artists. VCF Secretary HP Singh said the VCFians are stung by music bug and there is no stopping to this revelry. “We want to promote talents of our senior citizens and such musical events will be a regular feature, now on,” added Singh. VCF is one of the largest senior citizens organizations on Ghodbunder Road with 500 plus members.

According to authorities at the Kashinath Ghanekar auditorium, VCF is the first organization to book its amphitheater since its inception in December 2011. And what is more, it is offered free of cost by Thane Municipal Corporation.
