Social Activity Group of VCF is formed in Sep 2015 to take up and implement one of the objectives of VCF namely “SAHAYATA” on a larger scale, to cover varieties of activities and also to reach out to more member and non-member senior citizens. After a brain-storming session among members, some of the priority areas identified for implementation in a short term are:
Sending relief material to far flung tribal areas and areas affected by Natural calamity. SAG had tied up with Goonj, a reputed NGO [fhttp://goonj.org/?page_id=36] for this purpose. We had already sent two consignments so far. Further we also sent relief material to Chennai when it was affected by flood few months back.
Offering companionship and physical assistance to aged VCF members / ex members according to their requirement. VCF volunteers will visit members admitted in the hospitals, convalescing at home and also those who had some mishap at home. SAG volunteers had started this in a very limited way due to shortage of volunteers.
Training of our members in usage of computers and smart phones. Loneliness is a major problem with seniors. Usage of Digital social networking will of help to open up the world for such persons. As we found that many senior citizens are very educated but do not have necessary technical knowledge in usage of computers and smart phones. SAG has planned the first batch to undergo the training in end March.
Help inmates of an old age home in Thane area to improve their life style and comfort level. SAG has been conducting surveys of old age homes in Thane area.
Adopt senior citizens from poor families and provide them different type of care like medical care, Clothes and other basic necessities. SAG has two sponsors ready for adaptation. We ae in contact with Buddha Vihar management for identifying 2 Senior citizens to start with. We are also interacting with Rotary Club for sponsorship.
Income generation assistance to senior citizens who have special skills and creative ideas.
SAG within VCF has a long way to go. As this is a new initiative, the ideas and processes will have to get evolved and fine-tuned progressively. In this regard, VCF is seeking assistance from experts in the field as well as corporate houses involved in CSR activities.
